External Battery

The Stratus is usually powered from either a wall outlet or a computer, but is also able to be used with an external battery pack. Many customers that use the Stratus in anaerobic environments (chamber or gas-pak) prefer to use an external battery pack. This enables the Stratus and battery to be contained within the anaerobic environment.

We have tested batteries for compatibility with the Stratus. Our recommendation is the Anker 313 Power Bank (PowerCore 10K), model number A1229, due to its long life and small size. Our testing has shown a battery life of over 36 hours when measuring growth curves at three-minute intervals. For more information on the battery click below.

THIS RECOMMENDATION IS SOLELY TO BENEFIT OUR CUSTOMERS; WE DO NOT RECEIVE ANY COMPENSATION FROM PURCHASES OF THIS BATTERY.

Troubleshooting

Please note that some battery packs containing smart charge management technology (including others manufactured by Anker) automatically shut down when the electrical load dips below a certain threshold for enough time, reacting to the appearance that there is nothing plugged in. Because Cerillo’s plate readers are so low-power, they may inadvertently trigger this behavior when idle or between experimental samples, which could result in lost data.

Before using an external battery pack, we strongly recommend pre-testing your workflow without biological samples to ensure this will not occur. If you notice this behavior, we recommend trying a different battery pack (such as the Anker 313 Power Bank linked above) or decreasing your sampling interval to keep the device active more frequently (battery life permitting).
